dawn

My lipstick a map of the night on chin and cheeks.

The roadless adventure ended in a one way street.

Back to the start, Back to the shore.

Silence attacks, screams and winks.

Solitude raises, breaks and sinks.

Into the deep sea of my skin it seeps.

My body lays still and flat and floats,

Eyes traveling, mind wandering.

Tides of emotions, vortex of feelings -

In the calm of the storm we sink.

In the dawn of the day we drown the desires,

All the hopes and wishes we brought to the table,

Are washed away with whisky and wine,

Their remains engraved on the kitchen counter.

Clear-cut circles gnawing on the hardwood top,

Eternal memories of what’s lost in the dark,

Buried underneath the weight of our shoulders.

The red on my face is what’s left of the night.

Empty glasses once shared now shattered,

Tearing and breaking the morning’s beam of light.
